Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

The following provides a request for your tangible support in protecting the religious freedom of the full range of Christianity in Uganda. Christians who believe salvation is available to all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, are at risk of losing their religious freedom in Uganda. Your support in our effort to advocate for the protection of free speech and the right to assembly in Uganda would be life giving. Specifically, we are requesting your support as a signatory to the UGANDA: FAITH LEADERS STATEMENT OF CONCERN.

The Ugandan parliament is again considering the infamous anti-gay legislation (the Bahati Bill) that allows for the death penalty and imprisonment of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) people.  Importantly, even talking about the human dignity of LGBT people could become a crime.  People of faith and advocates alike could suffer imprisonment for supporting—or even discussing—the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Ugandans.
The attached advisory from the RFK Foundation provides more details of this urgent situation.

The sign on statement will be used as a vehicle to engage the Interreligious Council of Uganda, on the grounds of protecting religious freedom and progressive Christianity in particularly in a nation that holds such diverse Christian thoughts.

We appreciate your solidarity and commitment to the human dignity of God’s people everywhere.

Blessings,
